About Sasha Phillips

The Passion in me.

Sasha Phillips was born in Jamaica, she moved to the UK at age 6. Her inherent passion for physical activity, such as football, netball e.t.c was evident from her early years.

Her dance training began later at the age of 17 when she began training in contemporary, ballet and jazz. Then later qualified in
contemporary and Jazz at the Conservatoire in London. Her love of salsa started around the age of 20.

Sasha's salsa training began in a London dance school, where she delved into the world of Cali salsa from Colombia. Years of devoted study refined her expertise in this style, resulting in numerous team and couple performances. International congresses broadened her horizons, introducing her to diverse salsa styles such as LA, on2, and Afro-Cuban. Her training extended under the guidance of prominent industry figures, including Bersy Cortez, Fernando Sosa, Tania Cannarsa, Anita Rubin, Angelo Rito, and Maykel Fonts.

Sasha is now an internal teacher and performer. There are two aspects to Sasha’s style. One of which includes mastering and understanding the use of body movement within salsa, also the expression of movement through the music, her body and partner connection. Her accomplishments include a triumphant first place for her ladies' team at the 2023 Miami Salsa Summit, as well as her own victory in the Salsanama improvisational couple category.

Sasha is the director and choreographer of her own academy Sasha Phillips Dance School and also her team called Salsafieras. She currently has around 4 teams around the UK. She travels nationally and internationally with her team to perform and compete in different salsa events and competitions.
